We recently held a fun family day event with Lisa’s Army, our non-profit community partner!

AIROS Medical teamed up with Lisa’s Army earlier this year to help provide comfort to patients undergoing cancer treatment. Lisa’s Army is a registered non-profit organization founded in 2013 by family and friends of Lisa Loonstyn-Golden. Lisa was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 20. She believed that no one should have to face cancer treatment on their own so she recruited her friends and family to provide comfort and care for men, women, and children sharing her fight.

In keeping with Lisa’s wishes, the organization provides “Comfort Care Packages” to individuals receiving treatment for cancer. These packages include various items, including health and beauty items like lotions, hand sanitizer, and lip balm; activities such as puzzles and games; and either an Apple iPad or another tablet or technology piece that the patient can use during treatment.

AIROS employees and their families prepare to create Comfort Care Packages with representatives from Lisa’s Army.

Our company hosted Lisa’s Army at our headquarters in Audubon, Pennsylvania, to help create some of the care packages. Our company owners, employees, and their families – including many young children – worked together to create over 500 care packages.

Judy Kirk, the Volunteer Coordinator for Lisa’s Army, first gave an overview of Lisa’s Army, the organization’s cause, and how it was founded. She delicately told the children how Lisa’s Army tries to comfort people who are sick, and explained to them how important their efforts were in helping these people.

The children then formed an “assembly line” of sorts to help build the care packages, each stuffing their own item into the bags provided by Lisa’s Army. Items included hand sanitizer, make-up, and other health and beauty items.

“We had a fantastic time working with the Lisa’s Army volunteers,” says Joell O’Brien, AIROS’ head of customer service and the company’s liaison to Lisa’s Army. “Their cause is such an important one, and we were proud to have some of our employee’s kids involved to help them learn about the importance of community involvement. We look forward to hosting Lisa’s Army again in the future!”

The team at AIROS also works to gather items for the care packages all year long. If you would like to contribute, please email Joell at jobrien@airosmedical.com.

Lisa’s Army also holds various annual events, including a walk, a golf outing, and a large fundraiser. For more information about volunteering and financial donations, please visit http://lisasarmy.org.
